ABSTRACT

Objective:To analyze the CT manifestations of the 2019 novel coronavirus pneumonia (NCP) combined with severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) and Middle East respiratory syndrome (MERS) literature review, and to summarize the characteristics of CT imaging, so as to improve the ability of rapid and accurate diagnosis. Methods:CT manifestations of two confirmed cases of NCP were reported, meanwhile the literatures on SARS and MERS imaging performance were reviewed and summarized. Results:The two cases of NCP were both in acute stage, the CT imaging showed multiple and scattered ground-glass opacity (GGO) in both lungs, which is similar to the CT performance of SARS and MERS in acute stage. Conclusions:The CT features of 2019 novel coronavirus pneumonia are similar to SARS and MERS. It has certain characteristics and changes rapidly with the course of the disease. In the acute stage, GGO and paving stone sign were the main manifestations. In the acute phase, GGO and crazy paving are the main manifestations. In the progress stage, the interlobular septal thickening and consolidation appeared. During the absorption period, the lesions disappeared or fibrosis was left behind, with lung structure distortion and bronchiectasis. Lymphadenopathy and hydrothorax were rare.

ABSTRACT

In order to conduct surface monitoring of the three-dimensional spine morphology of the human body in daily life, a spine morphology measuring method using "single camera, multi-view" to construct stereo vision is proposed. The images of the back of the human body with landmarks of spinous process are captured from multiple angles by moving a single camera, and based on the "Zhang Zhengyou calibration method" and the triangulation principle of binocular stereo vision, the spatial conversion matrices corresponding to each other between all images and the 3D coordinates of the landmarks are calculated. Then the spine evaluation angle used to evaluate the spine morphology is further calculated. The tests' results showed that the spine evaluation angle error of this method is within ±3°, and the correlation between the results and the X-ray film Cobb angles is 0.871. The visual detection algorithm used in this paper is non-radioactive, and because only one camera is used in the measurement process and there is no need to pre-set the camera's shooting pose, the operation is simple. The research results of this article can be used in a mobile phone-based intelligent detection system, which will be suitable for the group survey of scoliosis in communities, schools, families and other occasions, as well as for the long-term follow-up of confirmed patients. This will provide a reference for doctors to diagnose the condition, predict the development trend of the condition, and formulate treatment plans.

ABSTRACT

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To study the clinicopathologic features, immunophenotype and differential diagnosis of extraskeletal myxoid chondrosarcoma (EMC).</p><p><b>METHODS</b>The clinicopathologic features of 5 cases of EMC (during the period from 2008 to 2013) were retrospectively analyzed. Immunohistochemical study (EnVision method) was carried out using the archival material. The literature was reviewed.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>There were altogether 3 female patients and 2 male patients. Their age ranged from 38 to 63 years (average = 51 years). The patients primarily presented with a tender soft tissue mass. All the tumors studied were solitary and the duration of disease onset varied from 3 months to 1 year. The sites of involvement included toe (number = 2), intracranial (number = 1), thigh (number = 1) and shoulder (number = 1). Gross examination showed white nodular masses with a gelatinous cut surface. The average tumor size measured 5.2 cm in greatest dimension. Histologically, a multinodular architecture with fibrous or loose fibrovascular septa separating lobules of tumor cells was identified. The lobules contained abundant myxoid stroma, with peripheral accentuation of tumor cellularity. Two cases were diagnosed as cellular variant of EMC, with invasive growth pattern and hemorrhage. The tumor cells in cellular EMC were arranged in solid nodules, with rare myxoid matrix in between. The nuclei were relatively uniform, round to oval and contained prominent nucleoli. The mitotic figure ranged from 5 to 10 per 10 high-power fields. Immunohistochemical study showed that all of the 5 cases were positive for vimentin, mitochondria and CD56. Two cases expressed synaptophysin and NSE. Focal positivity for these neuroendocrine markers was detected in the other 2 cases. Chromogranin and S-100 protein expression was demonstrated in 2 cases. The staining for epithelial membrane antigen was positive in case 2 and negative in the other 4 cases. CD117 showed diffuse positivity in case 1, the other 4 cases were not expressed.</p><p><b>CONCLUSIONS</b>EMC is a rare soft tissue sarcoma characterized by distinctive histopathologic features and often shows neuroendocrine differentiation. Although EMC is a slow-growing tumor, it carries a high local recurrence rate and even metastases, warranting long-term follow up.</p>

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: A large amount of in vivo and in vitro experiments have confirmed that, basic fibroblast growth factor (bFGF) has been widely utilized in various tissues and cells, it can facilitate the wound healing.OBJECTIVE: To observe the efficacy and feasibility of gene gun-mediate delivery of human bFGF on the healing of deep partial thickness bum wounds.DESIGN, TIME AND SETTING: Randomized design,an observational trial was performed at the Military Central Laboratory of Changhai Hospital in the Second Military Medical University of Chinese PLA between December 2007 and October 2008.MATERIALS: SD rats of clean grade, weighing 200-250 g, irrespective of genders, ware involved in this study.METHODS: Natural human bFGF gene was recombined and optimized, then eukaryotic expression vector pCI-neo-bFGF was constructed taking pCI-neo as a vector, and transfeoted with human embryonic kidney cells 293 T cells. Dot blot and Western blot methods were utilized to determine the bFGF expression. Rat model of deep partial thickness burn wounds was processed into transgene process using gene gun technique, pCI-neo-bFGF-transfected ones served as experiment group while pCI-neo-transfected ones served as controls.MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES:Wound healing time was recorded and the efficacy was evaluated. The contents of hydroxyproline and collaganase Ⅰ in burn wound tissues were determined at 24 hours, 48 hours, 96 hours, 7 days, 10 days and 14 days following transgene process.RESULTS: the recombinant pCI-neo-bFGF was transfected with human embryonic kidney 293T cells. Dot blot and Western blot analysis have showed that, the constructed pCI-neo-bFGF expression vector could express human bFGF, and the expression of synthesized gene was remarkably higher than that of natural gene under fluorescence microscope; gene gun-mediated transgene experiment have showed that, the wound healing time was (13.00+1.31) days in the experiment group and (14.75±1.28) days in the control group, with significant differences (P<0.05). The contents of hydroxyproline and collagenase Ⅰ reached a peak at 5 days after the injury, that is 48 hours after transfection, and then gradually decreased and maintained at a certain level. The experiment group had higher hydroxyproline levels compared with control group at different time points (P<0.05, P<0.01); the collagenase Ⅰ in the experiment group was notably higher than that in the control group at 48 hours and 96 hours after transfection (P<0.01).CONCLUSION: Gene gun-mediated delivery of human bFGF can short the time of wound healing, increase the contents of hydroxyproline and collagenase Ⅰ during the healing period, accelerate the healing of deep partial thickness burn wounds.

ABSTRACT

Locking compression plate(LCP)functions as an internal fixator in orthopedic surgery. It is a new screw-plate system developed by combining the traditional plating techniques with the principles of AO internal fixator.Compared with them,LCP omits pre-bending,avoids large-area exposure of fracture site, minimizes the damage to soft tissue, significantly reduces implant failure and decreases the incidence of infection and bone non-union.In addition,LCP can function as internal fixator with multiple anchor points to improve stability. All these properties of LCP accord with BO internal fixation principles and expand the application in the treatment of complex fracture. However,it is still not uncertain about the appropriate application of LCP including plate length, appearance, and type, and principles of screw application such as the number, type, sequence and position of screws.

ABSTRACT

Objective To investigate the treatment effect of proximal femoral nail antirotation (PFNA) on unstable femoral intertrochanterie fractures in the elderly. Methods A retrospective stud- y was done on 65 patients with unstable femoral intertrochanteric fractures, who were treated with PFNA from December 2005 to October 2006 and followed up for at least half a year. There were 22 males and 43 females, at age range of 67-97 (mean 78.5 years). All the operations were carried out within a week af- ter fractures. The data of operation time, operative blood loss, complications, bone healing time and hip function scores were recorded for evaluating treatment outcomes. Results All the patients were fol- lowed up for 6-18 months (average 10.5 months). The operation lasted for (29.6±7.5) minutes, with mean blood loss of (150.5±40.2) ml and bone healing time of (9.1±2.2) weeks. All patients ob- tained satisfactory treatment results, except for 3 patients with proximal thigh pain, 2 with pulmonary in- fection occurred and 1 with thrombs of lower limb vein. Harris post trauma hip function score was (88.5 ± 6.3) points. Conclusion PFNA is an effective way for femoral unstable intertrochanteric fractures in the elderly, for it is characterized by short operation time, less blood loss and stable fixation.

ABSTRACT

Transpedicular screw and rod internal fixation system is the common implants in spinal surgery. Multi-slice spiral CT and magnetic resonance imaging can generate section image, become routine imaging modality in the assessment of the postoperative spinal patients. Magnetic resonance imaging can evaluate the bone marrow and soft tissue, which is the first choice for examination. However, to the patients with metal implants, the existed metal artifacts can decrease the imaging quality. Therefore, multi-slice spiral CT is an important evaluation method for inserted material, os integumentale and anatomy. This article reviewed the production mechanism of metal-related artifacts, influencing factors and decreasing technique.
